Italian 1 in class5 units course
Designed to develop the fundamentals of communicative competence in colloquial Italian. The emphasis is on listening, comprehension, and conversational skills. Early reading and writing skills are introduced, as well as fundamental aspects of culture. Equivalent to two years high school Italian. Required Textbook: Frequently asked questions:
I cannot enroll because the class is full. What can I do? Send me an email. I keep a personal waiting list and I give Late Add Codes to the students who contact me first. Usually if you contact me after a month the class closes, it is very unlikely you can get in. I am a high school student so I cannot enroll when the class becomes available. What can I do in order to get in? Send me an e-mail and I will send you a code you can use when you are cleared to enroll. The class started today and I see there is an opening but My Site tells me to ask the professor for a permission code. Would you send it to me? Yes, but you will only have 48 hours to register. Online classes are the most challenging , so I allow students to join the class only the first week of the semester. When does the class start? The class officially starts Monday August 18th, but the course will be available in Blackboard one week before so that students enrolled can get familiar with the course design and with the tools. How much do I need to study for this course? In a 16 weeks course you should study 15 hours per week. Do I need to buy a textbook? Yes, we will use AVANTI!3rd edition paired with CONNEWCT. Digital Version of textbook is required. Do I need anything else other than the textbook? Yes, you need a microphone and a webcam that work with your computer. You also need a computer that meets minimum requirements. Check the page Required Material to be sure you have everything you need. Do I need to watch lectures live? No, you watch lectures and complete the material at your leisure but you have to complete it within the deadlines. Do I have to interact with other students during the semester? Yes, during the semester you will have one or more partners to complete activities. You will choose the option on where and how to complete these activities. Online or face to face. Can online students ask questions and/or contact the instructor? Yes, you can contact me by e-mail. I am also available live in chat when I am at the computer or we can set up an appointment and meet in Skype. |
Italian 1 and 2 on lineAnnouncing a new course!
Italian 1 and 2 will be offered on line at the Saddleback College in the Fall 2015. Required materials This course is organized into weekly lessons: two for each chapter accessible in Blackboard. 1. Our textbook is AVANTI! 3rd edition , By Aski , McGraw Hill, paired with CONNECT, a digital platform housing ebook, the workbook Manual, Learn smart, integrated audio and video. (Digital Edition is mandatory, do not buy hardcopy books), ATTENTION!!! Once the course in Blackboard will be available (one week before the first day of the semester), a link will take you to the publisher's website where you will be able to purchase the textbook. You will receive access to the textbook immediately. 2. Microphone that works with your computer and a computer that meets minimum requirements. 3. Webcam that works with your computer. Compiti -Homework will make 30%of your grade.
Textbook and Lab Manual exercises are designed to enhance and reinforce the information studied in each chapter; they will give you the necessary practice of vocabulary and grammatical structures along with essential practice and evaluation of your reading and listening comprehension. The homework will be assigned in CONNECT. All assigned chapter activities must be completed by the due date to receive full credit (grade is based on completion, attempt as many times as you want). Blog & Cultural presentation will make 10% of your grade.
The blog instructions will be posted on the “Blog” on Blackboard. Quizzes, Exams, Final Speaking & Written Exams will make 60% of your grade.
Quizzes and exams are on Blackboard or CONNECT at the end of each chapter. No make-ups will be given. Speaking exams will be in a form of a conversation with your classmates in a face to face class. In online course you will be conversing with me on Skype. Therefore you must have a webcam to take the test on Skype. Final oral and written exams are mandatory. A student not taking the final oral AND written exam cannot pass the class even if the amount of points would be sufficient. There is zero tolerance for cheating and plagiarism. Penalties range from an “F” on a test to expulsion from class. |
